Young Entrepreneurs Market

November 8 · 1–4 pm

Riverside Brookfield High School

160 Ridgewood Rd, Riverside, IL 60546

For one afternoon, the school fills with small businesses, and every one of them belongs to a student in grades 4 through 12. They built the product or sourced it, set the price, made the sign, and they are the ones who will talk you into buying.

Bands and performers play on the stage all afternoon, so there is somewhere to sit down with whatever you just bought. Come browse, ask them how they made it, and bring cash — not every booth can take cards.

Free to attend. No ticket needed.
Bring cash — most young sellers can't take cards.

A whole market, run by kids who mean business

No two booths are alike, and that is the best part of walking the room. One table is stacked with cookies in hand-tied bags; the next is clay earrings pegged along a line of string; a few down, someone is selling a service and taking bookings on a clipboard. Some sellers made everything themselves. Others found stock they believed in and marked it up, which is its own kind of business lesson.

What they share is that the whole thing is theirs. They handled the inventory, priced it, made the signage, worked out how much change to bring, and they will be standing behind the table for three hours finding out what sells and what does not. Ask them about it. Most of them will happily tell you.

Live youth bands and performers

The stage runs alongside the market, with youth bands and solo performers playing in turn. It is the reason the afternoon feels less like an errand and more like an event: people buy something, find a spot, stay for a set, then go back for another lap of the tables.

If you play, sing, dance or perform and you are in grades 4 through 12, there is room for you in the lineup.
